Why Are We Blogging?
Cause we got to! That’s my answer to the title of this blog. Given the work I do, SEO keyword copywriting and social media networking (really, what this whole site is about) I have come to see blogging-or the dreaded ‘b word’ as I call it-as a necessary evil in what I do. And though I am not a big fan of that ‘I’m-gonna-keep-you-updated-on-the-mundane-b.s.-of-my-even-mudan-ier-existance type of blogging we all seem to detest but send out on a regular basis, I came hard and long to the conclusion that blogging is just another tool in this game of getting peeps to peep your site.
Fiction or memoir was always where I felt one should pour out their guts and feelings (there was Op-Ed to, though if papers are on the decline these personal/political pieces will be replaced by blogging for sure). I still can’t reconcile a bud telling me stuff on Myspace or Facebook, when they can just as easily tell me to my face. And though I truly feel Twitter and it’s ilk is causing a ‘if-I-have-the-thought-I-should say-it’ conceit amongst the populace, I can and do see the reason for blogging when it is relevant to your business (hopefully that’s what I’m doing right here, right now with this blog). Relevance is really what matters to me most and what I would tell potential clients if they are looking for ‘hits’, the right keyword usage in copy and a stronger social media presence.
So I guess I’m not down on blogging or social media as much as I am that which has no purpose other than for venting. What I try to do with the copywriting, coming from the unadulterated essay/fiction/memoir world I do, from way-back-in-the-day, is provide something insightful, entertaining, but mostly relevant for whoever wants it. I’m an old guy I know, long in the tooth and stuck in my ways, but I am learning and trying to change a bit-even if the change comes slow-with each day.
