premiers February 11th and will run weekly on the New York City cultural site www.shortandsweetnyc.com.

Shortandsweetnyc.com is a daily updated gateway to all things in the big apple, from music and entertainment to restaurant recommendations to cosmetic product reviews. Ralph’s new column will fit in with the up-to-the-minute writing that readers have come to enjoy on the site, presenting a weekly forum for an audience Ralph hopes will be responsive and opinionated.

"For me, the fun of a column like this is the interaction," Ralph says. "Not only with store owners, porn stars, whomever I happen to meet and feature, but interaction with the wide range of shortandsweetnyc readers. We get folks from the five boroughs, people who work in town but live in NJ or CT, people who are coming in for vacation…not to mention just people who want to read the best site on NYC there is! I can’t wait to answer the emails."

Ralph is no stranger to the adult market, having published countless short fiction throughout the world and ebook collections of his short stories. He also DJ’s an hour-long music show on the sexy RadioDentata.com, has written copy and P.R. for the various clients of PearlyWrites.com, blogs regularly for M. Christians’ ‘Frequently Felt’ and Adult Organic SEO, as well as reviewing and interviewing for VintageRock.com and his consistent work for shortandsweetnyc.com

Shortandsweetnyc is run by David Lipp and boasts a readership of approx 8000 unique visitors monthly. Ralph can be reached at: shortandsweetsex@gmail.com.

At the tail end (or whatever it is this time of year in jersey) of the winter, not only am I experiencing that ‘come-on-let’s-get-some-warm-weather already’ ache but also a financial crunch I have never seen the likes of. All this on my head with the added stress of constantly applying for writing jobs (really how many of us are out there?!) I sauntered out to the old mailbox fearing the wad of bills I’d find. Low and behold, there was a check from my e-book publisher-Renaissance E-books to be exact-for my last few month’s gains.

To say I was tickled would be an understatement.

Having just spoken to my buddy and well-known erotic writer M. Christian about the state of publishing and both of us expounding positively on our continued experience with e-book publishing I found it ironic to get this check when I did, yet I’m none to surprise. For me it’s not the money so much that tickles me (ok, it’s a little bit about the money) but the way in which e-books work, as Christian and I opined, how a publisher need not hold physical copies of a book, how books of an adult nature are tried where a bigger publisher fears them (and the return of same) how, like the record business, the paradigm is shifting so much for how people get their books and read them (see the new Mac ‘Tablet’ yet?) that e-publishing is truly the way to go.

I met Jean Marie Stine of Renaissance E-books over the summer in San Fransico at the Cybernet convention, and within a month or so she not only had two books from me, but had them up on the site and was sending me a check within another. Now I get my 2nd. I have done no book tours, no signings (not that I wouldn’t) I just blogged, link Renaissance’s ‘Sizzler’ Editions whenever I can and the books work for me ‘out there’ in the ether that is cyberspace. No worries of boxes of returns, no calls from a publisher that we need to work harder, no attempt at anyone to tell me to write something more ‘commercial’.

I couldn’t be happier.

So hear me now my brothers and sisters of the quilted pen. As you make your way with your scribbles and jibes, uncover every opportunity, look far and wide for new and untried places to publish and think hard about the future, because the future is here…and it pays.

So there I am at the offices in the Fox monolith in NYC (did you catch that? I dropped two names here, the great city of Manhattan and a big time news/entertainment conglomerate…there will be more) walking into a room with about five other reporters all waiting for their particular one-on-ones with either Amy Irving (drop) Peter Gallagher (drop drop) or the guy I have come to see Frankie Faison (he played “Barney” in the Hannibal Lechter movies as well as hundreds of other roles) and I realize that I am suddenly the belle of the ball. Let me explain.

Along with the work I do with Lisa and PearlyWrites and the other odd seedy endeavors I am into with my music and such, I write for other web and blogsites, one of which is this thing called shortandsweetnyc.com. I review theater/film/CDs’/conduct interviews in and about the NYC area or stuff affecting the NYC area and often times I get to interview the talent of those plays/films or music. So this is why I was at Fox this day, but I’m a relatively new face as shortandsweet.com isn’t that very old, but it is gaining lots of attention, as we all know blog sites can these days. Anyway, I am sitting there when suddenly everybody wants to know who I am, who I write for and when I tell them…. Suddenly the interest over the long hair with the deep dimples and swarthy good looks (me) increased when my fellow reporters realized I worked for one of those nifty blog things that everybody is reading these days.

I had heard print was dying but man, I never saw a truer realization of this then what happened to me in those next few minutes. I try to keep a low profile as it is, I would never speak to anyone unless spoken to first (mainly because I am a chicken-shit, not because I am so cool…I’m not). Seems to me, that even if you have a good paying job in print or broadcast media, blogs and sites are what anybody who is anybody wants to write for or read these days. This one guy insisted on giving me his card-not that I asked for it-and when he couldn’t produce one, went out of his way to write his info down for me as quickly as possible. Sure I appreciate the networking, but at the same time he was saying: “Wow, there seems to be a new of those popping up everyday” after I told him I was from a .com, he was pushing his info into my hand like a desperate girl at closing time!

I liked the attention for sure, but this brief moment solidified for me what it is I am trying to do with my life. I am not on Twitter, I don’t have a Facebook page but I do send my various writings, songs even and network through email more often than not these days. Recently Lisa and I completed a press release for someone and within a half a day we garnered attention for that same some one, very good attention, quicker then you could ever have wished for in print. As Lisa has taught me, this Internet social media marketing thang is so immediate, reaches so many so fast and is now the industry standard that a dunder head like me gets attention even when I don’t know what to do with it.

As my newly-made-but-will-now-be-my-BFF M. Christian pointed out to me, this writer’s thang we writers do is quite a weird thang to do. We sit alone most of the time conjuring up our fantasizes or relating our experiences in the hope of releasing them onto an indifferent public at best, or a critical one at worst, aching for someone to be tickled enough to read us or, the-gods-be-praised, thrilled enough to recommend our ramblings.

Through it all we attempt to eek out a living doing what it is we love to do, but most of us sadly don’t, so we steal moments when were not trying to earn money to buy our daily bread, to do this writing thang as much as we can. Given the above, when two writers meet it is often an interesting scene to say the least. It’s a misery-loves-company situation at the best of times, a knock-out-drag-out competition at the worst. Since what we do we do in private we tend to protect that ‘thang’ we do often times to such a competitive edge that we act more like Mel G. in Thunderdome than we do like regular law abiding citizens. But, for me, at Cybernet this past weekend, and especially meeting the afore mention M. Christian, this wasn’t the case…in fact it was the complete opposite.

I have been to comic, horror, sci-fi cons galore. I actually attended the second- ever Star Trek convention in NYC, the infamous one where they oversold by thousands and there were near riots by Klingons, remember that one? I have been in the music ‘biz’ for as long as I have been writing prose and that is one cut-throat backstage shmooz-til-you-die scene, I tell ya! Cybernet couldn’t have been more different. I felt more a sense of blind acceptance for and from everyone who walked down those Holiday Inn steps than I ever did any kind of a “ok, so who are you, what do you do?” posing. In fact, I happened to speak to Jay and Connor’s female temp (yes, I’m drawn to pretty girls like the proverbial moth-to-flame…and usually end up getting my ego burned) a sweet-faced brunette standing at the bottom of the steps directing us to certain panels and she remarked how wonderful everyone was, how nice and open and smiley the faces around her were and how surprised she was given the nature of the convention. I couldn’t do much more then agree; this was a group of really nice people, made more so because we all shared the nefarious business of a business most people think is nefarious but is anything but. And for a writer at a convention like this, these Theremin®-backed good vibes went a very long way.

It’s not often I discuss what I do, I simply do it. I am not a braggart (or at least hope I’m not) and am usually too embroiled in getting my latest masturbatory fantasy to computer screen while I type with one hand that I don’t have the time to do much else then write. Like everybody else at Cybernet, I was just trying to learn a few things, meet some folk, try to make it through another day with the terrible jet-lag dragging my ass while I stored what little energy I had for the KINK debauchery. Really, my mind was on business for sure, as I know all of us had our mind on business, but it was so damn life-affirming to be with people who not only understood what I did (writers, webmasters, Internet radio programmers, etc.) but who really cared about what I did. I guess, and I hate to admit this cause I really do think of myself as a dour old fuck, but I really do like people.

Along with my partner in crime-and-cookies Lisa, we really were tickled pink to meet all these wonderful folks at Cybernet and feel part of the community. And that M. Christian guy (yeah, yeah, I’ll stop gushing) I couldn’t have met someone I have more in common with if I had written him myself! He was gracious, warm, exuberant, you name the positive attribute the man exhibits it, introducing me, chatting about films, laughing…he is the bomb man! See, the writer’s life doesn’t have to be that locked-away-in-a-garret-bemoaning-a-lost-love existence (but if you got her or him locked in that garret with you, alls the better). You can find these moments, like I did at Cybernet, where you feel the true value of what you do with people whom you come so quickly to value.

(Lisa did not edit Ralph’s voice or style )

Since it was the first time I had been invited to Vanessa’s room I took it upon myself to ignore the fluffy made bed and her sprawling across it in her midnight blue teddy, instead stepping slowly round her wooden floor, past dresser, mirror, TV and stand, computer and desk, closet and small beside-table. It wasn’t that I wasn’t intrigued by Vanessa invite to “give me five minutes and come on up” and I was indeed flattered that the busty brunette with the crooked smile wanted to get physical on this, our fourth date, but I figured I’d give us a both a moment to breathe, reason through what was obviously about to happen and maybe, just maybe, give myself an edge over this girl who had surprised me so suddenly. But as I walked the wooden and lace perimeter of the 35-year old girl’s room, I came past an item that stopped me dead in my tracks. Lying there scattered in the top of her dresser’s immaculate detritus-a few collectable dolls and her VCR’s remote-was a black tapered rubber stunted butt plug (it couldn’t be anything else) with a synthetic long tail attached to it, sitting in an open shallow box. “Maybe we can use it…later,” the girl behind me said, recognizing where I had stopped.

“You just leave your toys out to all your new gentleman callers?” I asked turning to her with as wicked a deep dimpled smile as I could muster considering how nervous I was.

“Well, I had no way of knowing if you’d see it,” she purred and got up on her knees. As always, my eyes dropped to the petite girl’s massive chest. “I was hoping, but if you didn’t, I could always show it to you later.”

“You are a very interesting girl,” I said, turning back to lift the anal toy from its box.

“I assume this is clean and ready for use?” I said turning back to her once again. I couldn’t help but play the tail over my pal.

“I wouldn’t put it out if it wasn’t,” Vanessa said as I stepped to her, and held the pony plug between us.”And I have the lube right here next to my bed if and when we need it.” She knelt up fully on the edge of the bed then, leaned her head back and I looked down to her thick lips. We kissed fast and just before our tongues met I released from the kiss.

“So, for you or me,” I said, looking down her alabaster cleavage to the pony plug I held.

“I guess we’ll have to see, won’t we?”

“I guess we will,” I said and moved to kneel on the bed with Vanessa.
